discipline.Thus,hecausedgreattroublesforhischiefsandinthelater
period,beforetheFirstWorldWar,hewasconstantlyinvolvedinto
verbalsquabblesandstrugglesmainlywithhispeersfromtheNational
DemocraticParty.However,heusedtobequiteuseful,especially
whenduringhissummervacationsheorganizedagitationcampaign
amongMiastkówyouth11.Despiteallthedifficulties,occurringfrom
thepointofviewofhissuperiors,hemanagedtofinishsoldierand
non-commissionedofficerschool,functioningundertheauspices
oftheorganizationuStrzelec”12.Itshouldalsobenotedthathaving
joinedthePolishRiflemen’sAssociation,hemetanotherperson,who
hadanenormousinfluenceonhisfurtherposition.ItwasKazimierz
Sosnkowski13.
BogusławMiedziński’scareerofasoldierbegan,aswellasformost
ofhispeers,involvedintotheworkoforganizationuStrzelec”,in1914.
However,asMiedzińskirecalled,atthattimeeventheassassination
inSarajevodidnotenvisagethatthecherishedmilitaryservicecould
becomearealfact.OnJune20,1914,athismeetingwithWalerySławek
inuEsplanada”inKrakow,theperson,whoremainedhisdoubtless
authority,toldhimthatuthesituationwasbecomingclearlypeaceful
(ł)easingoftheconflictseemsalmostcertain”14.Afterhismeeting
withSławekhedecidednottopostponetheplannedvacationsandat
thebeginningofAugust1914,togetherwithhiswifeanddaughterhe
leftforhisfamilyhomeinMiastków.Therehereceivedtheinformation
aboutAustrianultimatumissuedtoSerbia.
ThefirstdaysoftheFirstWorldWarweremarkedforMiedziński
bydoubtsanddilemmas.Cutofftheinformation,fedwiththerumours
andtheatmosphereofthetown,occupiedbytheRussiansremaining
underthepoliticalinfluenceofpeople,whorepresentedNational
Democracy,hecouldnotfightdownthefeelingofdespair.Hisstateof
