third-personsingularpersonalpronouns.

Differentstructuralpropertiesofdifferentlanguagesrequireshiftsatdiffer-

entlevels.Atthelexicallsemanticlevel,whentranslatedintoPolish,theEnglish

wordnephew,apartfromgenderspecificationofthereferent,requiresadditional

specification,dependingonwhetheritisachildofabrotherorasister.Thus,the

translatorhastochooseamongfouroptionsinPolish(siostrzeniec/siostrzenica,

bratanek/bratanica),eachofthemmoreexplicitthantheoriginal,asisthecase

inthisexample:
