suchawayheearnedthetime,necessarytocarryoutthemobilizationof
theorganization.AstheyexpectedtheRegencyCouncildidnotapprove
thecompromise,madewithZdanowskiandappointedŚmigłytothepost
ofthecommanderofthetroopsforthestrugglewiththeUkrainians.
OnNovember5,GeneralTadeuszRozwadowski,theHeadoftheStaff
oftheRegencyCouncilappointedGeneralBolesławOlszewskiachiefof
Lublindistrict,andorderedŚmigłytoobeyhisorders91.
Obviously,undertheinfluenceofthisdecisiontheretookplace
aturningpointinthepolitics.BeforeRozwadowski’sarrival,starting
fromNovember4,1918,inLublinthemajorityoftheConventmembers
decidedtoundertaketheinitiative.Duringthefollowingtwodays,
someotherpoliticalactivistsarrivedinLublinand,accordingtothe
Warsawmeetingweregoingtooccupyministerialposts.According
totheinformation,providedbyAndrzejFriszke,obviouslyatnight,
6-7Novembertheretookplaceevents,whichweredescribedin
Miedziński’smemoirsasthose,whichhappenedtwodaysearlier.He
personallyreceivedtheordertotakethecommandovertheplatoon
ofthePolishMilitaryOrganization,tooccupythemostimportant
strategicpointsinthecityandtoarrestthecommanders,exercising
theirfunctionsonbehalfoftheRegencyCouncil.Later,heparticipated
inovertakingofbarracks,occupiedbythetroopsofGeneralOlszewski
aswellasininternmentoftheircommander92.Undoubtedly,duetothe
smoothexecutionoftheoperationaswellashighpropagandaskillsof
WacławSieroszewski,thesoldiersdecidedtomoveundertheorders
ofŚmigły,whoatthattimewasaministerofwarintheProvisional
GovernmentofthePolishRepublicandacommanderofthepolish
army93.Moreover,duetohisskilfulness,Miedzińskiwaspromotedto
therankofcaptain;however,hehadtowaitforPiłsudski’sapprovalof
hisappointment94.
