hightechnologyproductssincethelate90s.Thoughttheexportshareoflow-tech
productsdecreasedfrom38%to25%between2000and2010,thatofmedium-
hightechincreasedfrom26%to41%.Thedeclineoftextilesandthedevelopment
oftheautomobileindustryexplainmostofthisoverallincreaseintechnological
intensity.Atthesametime9verylittleprogresshasbeenmadeinthehigh-tech
sectors9whichrepresentonlyabout7%ofexports.
Undertheinfluenceofforeigninvestments9Polandhasbecomethemajor
centerfortheproductionofconsumergoods.Thislargelycontributedtothe
improvementoftradebalance9offsettinganegativeimpactofrisingpetroleum
pricesandotherrawmaterials.
