tereachphasefeedsandnourishesthephasethatfollows:soMetalfeedsWater,
WaterfeedsWood,WoodfeedFireandsoon.Butthenurturingpairsare
complementedbypairingsthatchallengeorresist:soMetalresistsWood,Wood
resistsEarth,EarthresistsWateretc.Tisdoubledynamicofnourishingand
controllingnotonlycharacterisestheartcreativeprocessitself,butcharacterises
acreativepedagogyinart:webothnurtureandchallengeourstudents.

Herewefindthecollectivewisdom,thetraditions,therepertoireofskillsand
conventionsthatdefineaculture.Noeducationintheartsispossiblewithout
Metalasitsbase.Ifthisphasemarksthebeginningitisalsotheend,astime
