However,withregardtothemissionofspreadingscientificcultureamongststudents
whodonotinvestigatebeyondtheirowndomainofspecialisation,amuseumisnotthe
bestmethod.Forthem,amuseumisanoutmodedinstitutionlackingappeal.
Weimagineanomadicmuseumtobeagoodsolutionformovingtemporaryexhibi-
tionsintoeachfacultyordepartmentoftheuniversity.Theconceptof“nomadic”actu-
allymeansmobility,lightness,adaptabilityandopportunity.
Thequestionishowtomaintaincontinuitythroughmovingandtemporaryexhibi-
tions,andwhattheconditionsaretosucceedinthatpurpose.
First,tomanagefrequentlyrenewedexhibitionsfromonecampustoanotherrequires
thepreparationofhostingareas,or“oases”,inlobbies,hallsandwaitingareasindif-
ferentpartsofuniversities.Ineachplace,thenomadicmuseummustndseveralwell-
informedpartnerstoorganiseawelcome.Whileweareinvestigatinginsidelaborato-
ries,weshouldalsobuildadynamicnetworkofpartnersfortheprotectionofscientific
heritage;partnerswhoarealsodeterminedtosettleandanimateexhibitionprojects.To
facilitatethedevelopmentofthisnomadicmuseum,itwouldseemveryimportantthat
theexecutivestaffofuniversityshouldbereadytosupporttheteamandpromotethe
scientificshows.
Then,weshouldselect“oases”inpremiseswhichprovidesuchfacilitiesaslight,
water,ventilation,aswellastheobviousqualitiesofsecurityforthedisplayedobjects
anddevices.
Acharacteristicofthenomadicmuseumisitscaravancarryingspecificmeanstoas-
sureeasyfunctioning:mobileresourcesasexibleandtransportableequipment,show
cases,mobilepartitionsandportablespotlightswhichcanbequicklydismantledorin-
stalled.
Anassetofthistemporaryexhibitionequipmentistobemodularandeasytosetup,
asthemesanddisplaysmightbeadjustedwithregardtotheinterestsoftheaimedpublic,
aswellastheavailablespace.Themainassetofthis“nomadicsolution”istobeableto
adaptitsrelevanceandstimulatecuriosityandstrangeness.Itistruethatthemetamor-
phosisofusualplacesandpassagewaysenhancetheattractionoftheevent.
Thenomadicmuseumisakindofnetworkofarchitecture,scatteringexhibition
scenesinlobbies,hallsandwaitingareasand,atthesametime,anetworkorganisation
whichincludesactiveparticipationandhelpfromacademics.
Finally,todevelopthesafeguardingofcontemporaryinstruments,disseminatere-
searchhistorylinkedwithpresentresearch,thenomadicmuseumneedsbesidesastore-
housetostockmaterials,adatabaseforthevirtualprotectionoftheinventory,andsus-
tainablearchives;andlastbutnotleast,anessentialwebsitewithavirtualmuseumto
promoteevents.Butthatisanotherquestion.
