UniversityofPécsoftoday,theRoyalHungarianElizabethUniversityfoundedinBra-
tislavaexactlyonecenturyago,whichwasforcedtoeeaftertheFirstWorldWarand
transferredtoPécs.Nocampuswasbuiltforthissuddenlyandoriginallyonlytemporar-
ilytransferreduniversity.Thecityandthebishopricgrantedsignificantbuildingstothe
universityalloverPécs,andthiswaytheuniversitywasbuiltorganicallyintothelifeof
Pécs.Forthisreason,whenformingthisroomwewereaimingatrepresentingthestreets
ofPécsandtheinternalspaceofthebuildings.
ThefourthroomshowsThehistoryoftheUniversityofPécsanditsformerinstitutes
fromthe1950suptothepresentday.Inthisroomweconcentratedthematicallyonthe
institutionalandorganisationalchangeswhichoccurredinthesecondhalfofthe20th
century,aswellasonthelivesofthestudents.Wedisplaytherelicsandpublicationsof
thetenfaculties,thepracticeschoolsoftheUniversityofPécsandthelivesofthestu-
dentswithineachfaculty.Whenevokingtheintellectualityofthepresentdayuniversity
wetooktheimageandpicturethattheuniversityhasformedofitselfasabasis,themost
importantsourceofwhichistheuniversitywebsiteanditspublicityguidelines.
Sinceemphasiswasplacedonthehistoryoftheinstitutionandthelivesofthestu-
dentswhenwritingthescenariofortheexhibitionandweendeavourednottohighlight
anyparticularpeopleespeciallyinthepartsintroducingtherecentpastandthepresent,
asthisselectionwouldhavehardlybeenobjective,wewantedtorepresentthefaculties
oftheuniversityandtheirrepresentativerectorinthefthroom.Onarrivingatthesym-
bolicRector)sRoomattheendoftheexhibition,thevisitorcansitdownandthinkover
his/herimpressionsontheexhibitionbywatchinglmsandlisteningtoaudiomaterials
relatingtohighereducation.
ThecreationoftheUniversityHistoryCollectionwasembracedandsupportedby
themanagementoftheuniversityfromtheverybeginning,andasaresultofwhichwe
appliedforthestatusofbeingapubliccollection.
InNovember2010theUniversityHistoryCollectionoftheUniversityofPécswas
awardedthestatusofbeingapubliccollection,whichnotonlyshowedtheMinistry’s
appreciationoftheyearsofprofessionalpreparatorywork,butalsoservedasencourage-
mentforustocontinuouslydevelopboththecollectionandtheexhibition.
