HouseH.Themaineffortthisyearwasdirectedatexploring
theEarlyRomanstructuresofHouseH.

InroomH-3,
asectionofunderfloorchannelrunningeast-westandconnect-
ingthebuildingwithastreetsewagesystemwascleared.Inthe
northeasterncorneroftheroomawellpreserveddoorwaywas
found,givingaccesstofurtherpartsofthehouse.Anadjoining
sectionofwallstandsto1.40mabovethelevelofathreshold
andevenretainstheoriginalplastering.
Anarrowverticalslotclearlyvisibleinthewallgaveevery
reasontobelievethattheeasternpartofroomH-lwasseparat-
edbyasortofwoodenscreen,makingthusasmallanteroom
screeningamoreprivatesectionofthehouse.Corresponding
layersgaveevidenceoflong-lastingoccupationfromthe1stto
the3rdcenturyAD.BesideasubstantialnumberofEarlyRo-
mancoins,excavationsyieldedalsoalargecollectionofpottery
finds,amongthemstampedfragmentsofimportedterrasigilla-
tawares,completeplateofEasternSigillataB,smalljugletsand
locallymanufacturedpaintedjugdatedtothe1stcenturyBC-
1stcenturyAD.
ExcavationscontinuedalsointheadjoininglocusH-3a.The
wholeinnerfaceofthewestern(facade)wallwascleared.Itwas
ascertainedthattheroomdidnothaveanydoorwayfromthis
