InterestingdiscoveriesweremadealsoinlocusG-2.Itturn-
edoutthattheroominitsinitialphaseofoccupation(4thcen-
turyAD)wasquitesumptuouslydecorated.Closetoitseastern
walltwolimestonecolumnbaseswerediscovered,formingasort
ofmonumentalframe.Thisfeaturesuggestedthepossibilityof
themainentrancetothehousebeinglocatedhere,butmore
investigationsareneededbeforethisquestioncanbeanswered
satisfactorily.
IthasbeenascertainedthatthestructuresofLateRoman
agewerelaidthereonentirelynewfoundations.Thehugefoun-
dationsforminganuniformandintegratedstructurewerebuilt
ofimposingblocks(someofthemmeasuring1.20x0.70m),
apparentlytakenfromsomeearlierbuildinglocatednearby.Al-
thoughneitherthelocationnorthecharacterofthisedificecan
bepositivelyidentified,itwouldhavebeenofrathermonumen-
talform,consideringthesizeofnumerousarchitecturalelements
incorporatedintothefoundations:flutedcolumnshafts,corni-
cesetc.AsinthecaseofHouseH,hereagainwewitnessalong-
lastingtraditionofbothgenerallayoutandfunctionofparticu-
larloci.
InroomsG-10andG-2aseriesofsuperimposeddoorsleading
ontoStreetR4wascleared.Thedoorsservedsubsequentoccupa-
tionallayersexploredwithintherooms.Bothlociservedprimarily
asworkshops,althoughtheirprecisefunctionvariedovertime.
Amedium-sizedovalkiln(c.0.80mindiameter)wasunearthedin
roomG-10.Thelocationofthekilnwithintheroomindicatedthat
inthisphasethemaindoorsmusthavebeenblocked.Itwasusedin
the5thcentury,asattestedbyaccompanyingfinds.Moredevelop-
edinstallationswereclearedunderneath.Theyconsistedofasmall
rectangularkilnbuiltindistinctopusspicatumtechnique.Thekiln
