Abstract
20thcenturyartists’interestandinspirationbychildren’sartinscribesitselfintotheframes
ofbroadertendenciesappearingattheturnofthe19
th
and20
th
centuries.Theveryten-
dencieswereconnectedwitharebellionagainstcultureandartintheshapeanddirection
theygointoatthattime.Theypostulatedaturntowhatisnon-academic,uncontaminated
withinfluencesoftheWesternculture,naïveandprimitive.Apartfromsuchtendenciesas
interestintheartofprimitivecultures,worksofthesickandthosefromthesocialmar-
gin,whatappearedwasinterestinchildren’sworksnotshapedbythecultureandhaving
theabilitytoperceivethingsinaclearwayofthesurroundingworld.Alsothescientific
discoveriesatthattimewithpsychoanalysisandtheoryofevolutionattheheadinfluenced
thesesphenomena.Thearticlepresentsapsychoanalyticattitudetoworks,acharacteristic
ofchild’sflexibleutteranceandtheanalysisofthewaysWasylKandyński,PaulKleeand
PabloPicassowereinspiredbychildren’sworks.Theirworksofartinscribedthemselvesin
whatisdescribedintheliteratureasfascinationwitha“naïvelook”.Howevereachofthem
presentedadiferentwayofapproachingthistopicandwasanexampleofhowdiferently
theartistswereinspiredbythesamesources.
