Inthisworkwediscusstheproblemofdefiningpreferencesbymeansofverbalscales.
Weproposeanovelmethodcombiningtwosimple7-pointverbalscalestokeepboththeintuitive
interpretationofthelinguistictermsandadequateprecisionoftheobtainedscale.Thesolution
weproposeisappliedinthenegotiationcontextasasupportivetooloftheNegoManageelec-
tronicnegotiationsystem.Inourpaperwediscussprosandconsofusingbothnumeric
andlinguisticscales.Finallywediscussthewaythenovellinguisticscaleisbuiltanddescribed
howthenumericalequivalentsaredeterminedforeachlinguistictermoftheproposedscale.
