questionis:dothey?Howmanyofthemhavelookedathispictures
ingalleries,museumsoreveninalbums?Monet)spaintingsbecame
famousformanyreasons,butalsobecauseoftheprocessofdecon-
textualisation,whichchangedtheiraestheticstatusandthemedium
oftheirdissemination.Peoplestartedcreatingcopies,reproductions,
andduplicationsofthem,andthencopiesofcopies,reproductionsof
reproductionsandduplicationsofduplications.Wecantalkaboutallof
theseusingonecommonterm-images.Teybecamethenew“bodies”
ofthecontentsrepresentedbycopies,reproductions,andduplications.
Someoftheseimagesweretreatedaspotentialorrealintertextsoreven
palimpsests(oftheartist,ofimpressionism,orsimplyof“beauty”),so
theywerenotonlyreproducedbutalsochanged.Allofthesewaysof
beingimagesbegantochangeinSecondLife,avirtualworldwhere
users,calledavatars,cancreatetheirownworld,exploreexistingones,
andinteractwithotheravatars.[1]

,butalsoasanaturalconsequenceofthewidespreadaccessibility
toworksofart,whichusedtobeavailabletoalimitedgroupofpeople.
Teconceptof“designs”wouldbeanappropriatetoolfordescribingthe
eńectsofthenewmedia.Forthepurposesofthispaper,designscould
bedefinedas“semioticresourcesinallsemioticmodesandcombina-
tionsofsemioticmodes.Designsaremeansofrealizingdiscourseinthe
contextofagivencommunicationsituation,consequentlytransforming
sociallyconstructedknowledgeintosocialinteraction.Butdesignsalso
