ofeducational,scientific,andculturalvalue.Anotherissue,intermsofmethods,
isthedevelopmentofprinciplesforcomprehensivepreservationandthescopeof
conservationwork.Teyofenenableadditionalstudies,expandingtheresults
ofcomplexdescriptionandcataloguingofthecollection.
ConclusionsandRecommendations
Tespecificcharacterandvarietyof19th-centuryhistoricalcollectionsin
culturalinstitutionsfostertheadoptionofindividualsolutionsconcerningboth
theirstorage,cataloguing,circulation,andtheirlocalisationwithinthestructure
ofagiveninstitution.Tereisnouniversalsystemandrulesfordevelopingcol-
lectionsofthistype(andthereprobablycannotbe),mainlyduetotheirdiversity.
However,itisworthadoptingandapplyingsomeuniversalguidelinescreated
forspecificgroupsofobjects.Oneoftheprioritytasksshouldthereforebethe
developmentofgoodstandards,basedonpastexperience,goodpractices,or
legalregulations.Imeanherethekindofrecommendationsdevelopedbyvarious
bodies,liketheICOMPoland,theConferenceofDirectorsofPolishAcademic
Libraries,theInternationalAdvisoryCommitteeofKeepersofPublicCollections
ofGraphicArt,ortheConsortiumofEuropeanResearchLibraries.Tepointis
toindicateoptimalsolutions(concerningconservation,organisation,research),
whichcanbeusedbydińerentinstitutionsgathering19th-centurycollections.Itis
obviousthattheseinstitutionsvaryintheirformalandlegalaspectsaswellas
thescopeoftheircollections;therefore,noteveryrecommendationincluded
