noticethediferencesinboththetheologyandthepracticeofmarriage.

AmongthenumerousissuesconstitutingthespeciﬁcallyLutheranviewof

marriage,theissueofitsindissolubilityhasparticularsigniﬁcance.

Obviously

,withinasinglearticle,itisnotpossibletooferacompre-

hensivepresentationofthisimportantandcomplexproblemasmetwith

invariouschurchesandcommunitiescultivatingtheLutherantradition.

Therefore,wemustresorttocertainsimpliﬁcationsandconcentrateon

themaintrendoftheLutherantradition,consideringespeciallytheviews

ofMartinLuther(1483—1546)himselfandskippingthedivergencesin

thismatteramongtheLutheranfaithful.1

Takingintoaccountthedimcultiesmentioned,Iwillstartthisreﬂec-

tionwithshowingthebasicelementsoftheLutheranconceptionofmar-

riage(1).Next,IwillpresenttheLutheranviewoftheindissolubilityof

marriage(2).Finally

ecumenicalCatholic-Lutherandialogue(3).
