INTRODUCTION

Agribusinessisapartofeconomywhereisthegreatestpotentialfordevelop-

mentofanyintegrationlinks.Integrationprocessesinagribusinessgiveriseto

advantagesandcertainlimitationsinthedecisionmakingprocess.Theycanbe

consideredfromthepointofviewoftheintegratorandintegratedfarmers,but

alsofromthepointofviewofintegrationsystems(verticalandhorizontal)andthe

entitiesoutsidethesesystems,e.g.processingplantsnotengagedincontractual

verticalintegrationorthefarmersoutsidetheproducergroup.

Intheeffectivedevelopmentoffarmsintheregionandlocalfoodindustry

unitstheimportantroleisplayedbyintegrationrelations–themoreadvancedthey

are,thebetterthedevelopmentoftheseentities.Adaptationtothemarketecon-

omyandtheintegrationlinksoccurringbetweentheabove-mentionedentitiescan

takemanyformsandcanproceedatadifferentpaceandinanumberofways.The

courseoftheseprocessesdependsonmanyfactorssuchasthesizeofthefarmand

thestructureoflanduse,thepurposeanddirectionofproduction,theproduction

capacityofthefoodindustry,therulesofconductinrelationsbetweenthepartic-

ipantsofmarketrelations,thescopeandintensityofstateinterventionandsoon.

ThemembershipofPolandintheEuropeanUnionsigniﬁcantlyaffectsthe

situationofagriculturalcommoditiesproducersandprocessorsandmanyother

economicentities.TheaccessiontotheEUisassociatedwiththeincreaseofcom-

petitionintheagri-foodmarket,bothfromproducersoftherawmaterialaswell

asfromitsprocessors.ThechancesofPolandonthemarketsofothermember

statesshouldbesoughtinreducingtheimpactoflargefragmentationoffarms

ofagriculturalproducersthroughthecreationofstructuresintegratingfarmers,

enablingrationalizationofproductionandmarketingofagriculturalproducts.It

isevidentthatproperdevelopmentofprocessesofverticalandhorizontalintegra-

tioncanhelptoachieveabettermarketpositionofthePolishproducersofagri-

foodproducts.

Conductingtheresearch,dataanalysis,elaborationofresults,preparationand

translationofthisstudywasdonewithintherealizationoftheauthor’sindivid-

ualresearchprojectentitled:“Determinantsofdevelopmentofinnovativeforms

ofintegrationlinksbetweenagricultureandfoodindustry”fundedbyNarodowe

CentrumNauki(NationalScienceCentre)(DEC-2011/01/D/HS4/03911).

Thesubjectofresearch,andalsotheaimofthisstudyistoanalyzethedeter-
