Introduction
Afer1989,theCentralEuropeancountrieswerefacedwiththetaskoftrans-
formingtheirpoliticalsystemsintodemocraticones.Tepoliticalandsocio-eco-
nomictransformationinnewlyestablisheddemocraticcountriesresultedinthe
introductionofnewadministrativeandpoliticalsolutions,aswellas-atalater
date(1January1993)-inadivisionofCzechoslovakiaintotwocountries:the
CzechRepublicandSlovakia.Systemicchanges,includingashiffromtheone-
partysystem,theintroductionofthemulti-partydemocraticsystem,crystallization
andtransformationofthepoliticalscene,partysystemsandthecreationofanew
socioeconomicsystemhavebecomeasignofthecollapseofrealsocialism.An
importantaspectwasalsotheissueofreorientationintheforeignpolicyofthe
countriesinthediscussedregion,i.e.thedissolutionofinternationalorganizations
bringingtogetherthesocialisttypeoftheWarsawPactortheCouncilforMutual
EconomicAssistanceandturningtotheNorthAtlanticPact(NATO),andthe
EuropeanUnioninstitutions[Wojnicki2014].
TeVisegradGroupwasformedasafederationofCentralEuropeancountriesin
1991(intheinitialversionofPoland,Czechoslovakia,andHungary),andin1993,
aferpoliticalandsystemicchangesinCzechoslovakia-theCzechRepublicand
Slovakia,anddespiterealizingthemaingoalofenhancinginternationalcooperation
intermsofaccessionoftheassociatedstatestotheEuropeanUnionandNATO,
continuestofunction.Currently,thetaskoftheV4GroupistobuildEuropean
securitybasedonefective,complementary,mutually-supportivecooperationand
coordinationwithinexistingEuropeanandtransatlanticinstitutions,andtopro-
moteculturalcommunities,includingthetransferofvaluesinthefieldsofculture,
education,learningandinformationexchange.AllactivitiesoftheVisegradGroup
areaimedatstrengtheningstabilityintheregionofCentralEurope,butalsoat
developingacommonpositiononEUpolicy.
TeaimofthispublicationistotrytolookatthepoliticalsceneoftheVisegrad
Groupcountries,inparticulartheirpartysystemsafer1989andthecurrentlyruling
politicalparties’activities.Withregardtothenumberofcountriesformingthe
VisegradGroup,thebookwasdividedintofourparts-Poland,theCzechRepublic,
SlovakiaandHungary.Subsequently,eachpartconsistsofachapteronthestate
ofthepartysystemandthechapteronmodernparliamentarypoliticalparties.
