AtlastIhavetonoteatragiccoincidence:HorstvonGizycki,professor
emeritusoftheuniversityatKassel,whohadpropagatedsuchaconferenceof
Europeanjournalsforyears,diedthedaybeforeitsstarted,totallyunexpectedly.
Fromtheseventies,hewastheauthorandco-editorofthe“FrankfurterHefte”,
untilthemagazinefusedwith“NeueGesellschaft“intheeighties.Untillhis
suddendeathheservedthenewmagazine“NeueGesellschaft/Frankfurter
Hefte”(NG/FH)ontheAdvisoryBoard.Hewasalifelongadvocateof
(European)civilsociety,andnow,undermorefavorableterms,hecamebackto
anideaofthefriendofhis,RudiSupek,perhapsknowntosomeofyouasRector
ofZagrebUniversityandfounderoftheKorculaSummerSchool,whoalready
hadtriedintheseventiestoconvenesuchacouncilofEuropeanjournalsbutin
vain.Finally,HorstvonGizycki,succeeded,butwasnotallowedtowitnesswhat
hehadsomanyyearsworkedfor.
