Abstract:Thecontemporarygraffiti-phenomenonhasbecomeasubjectofintensiveresearch.With-
inthisscopeofinterestLatingraffiti,morewidelyunderstoodas“streetepigraphy,”hasnotbeen
focusedoninparticular.Thepresentessayoffersapreliminarystudyofsuchinscriptions(including
graffiti,tattoos,labels,advertisements).Theyusuallyexploitrecurrentquotations,oftencitedwith
grammaticalerrors.Theinscriptionsassuchbelongtoawiderstockofpopularculture.

Introduction
ThelanguageoftheancientRomansisinseparablyassociatedwiththeepi-
graphicevidence.InPoland,fromtheMiddleAgesuptotheendofthe
18thcentury,Latinepitaphsandotherinscriptionsoutnumberedtheonesincised
inPolishlanguage.However,overtimeLatinnearlycompletelydisappearedfrom
Polishepigraphy.Thisprocessisstillwaitingforaproperscientifictreatment.
ClassicalGreeklanguagealwaysplayedamarginalroleinPolishepigraphy(but
onecanfindsomeinterestingcases1).
