Introduction
Thechangescurrentlytakingplaceinthefieldofsocialassistance
resultfromthecontinuallygrowingneedforsocialassistanceincon-
temporarysociety.Socialworkfocussedonassistingindividuals,fam-
ilies,groupsandcommunitiesisperceivedasaneffectiveformofsolv-
ingsocialproblems.Socialworktodayfacesthechallengeofbuilding
acomprehensivesystemofsupport,promotinginstrumentsofsocial
integrationandactivationaswellasseparatingsocialworkfromthe
problemofawardingbenefits.
SocialworkisnotaprestigiousprofessioninPoland.Thereare
obstaclesthatmakeprofessionalsocialworkdifficultorevenimpos-
sible.Socialworkinvolvesalotofriskssuchasstressandoccupa-
tionalburnout.Thisprofessionisburdenedwithvariousdifficulties
arisingfromrelationswithclients,co-workers,superiorsandinsti-
tutions.Socialworkersareexpectedtoshowprofessionalbehaviour,
expandtheirexpertiseandimprovethemethodsofsocialworkde-
spitetheirlowpay,lackofspecialrightsandpoorreputationinso-
ciety.Ontheonehand,theactivityofsocialworkersisaproductof
organised,formalandpaidassistanceand,ontheother,akindof“test
forhumanity”showntothoseinneedofhelp.Therefore,amongsocial
workersyoucanfindpeoplewhohavechosenthisprofessionoutof
adesiretoserveothersaswellaspeoplewhohaveendedupinthis
roleaccidentally(Zbyrad,2010,p.51-52).
AsWeissbrot-Koziarskaobserves(2013),effectivemeasuresare
requiredinviewoftheproblemsexperiencedbyindividualsandtheir
familiestodayduetothecomplexsocialandeconomicsituation.The
attentionofsocialworkersisnotlimitedtopoverty,homelessness,
