piersandaccessibilityoftheremains.
JETTYI
PierIislocatedtotheeastoftheroad
crossingMariutLakeandisorientedmore
orlessnorthwest.Whenfirstdocumented,
itmeasured39mfromtheentrance
fromthequaytothelastpreservedpart
abovewaterlevel(30mofthisisingood
conditionandvisibleabovewater)and7m
acrossatthewidestpoint.
Ithassixcoursesofstoneblocks(ItoVI
countedfromthebottomup)[Fig.10].
Teuppercoursesneartheentranceto
thequayhavebeendestroyedandonlythe
lowerlayersofstoneshavesurvivedcloseto
thewaterlevel.Tetypicalsizeofblocks
ofstoneinlayerVIontopwas60cmby
110cm;inlayerVthestonesweremore
elongatedinshape,measuringapproxi-
mately40cmby100cm.InlayersIVand
IIIthestonesshowedgreaterdiversity
bothinsizeandshape.Testonesinall
layerswerearrangedinaregularpattern.
