Abstract:Thefactthatthedevelopmentofscienceispossibleonlywhenaccess
ismadetotheresultsandtheconclusionsassociatedwiththeresearchwhichwas
conductedhasbeenfamiliarforalongtimeinthescholarlycommunity.Inthe1990s
thisreflectionbecameanimpulsefortheestablishmentoftheOpenAccessmove-
ment(OA)andfortheconstructionofthefirstopenarchiveswhichweresupposed
toacceleratetheflowofinformation.Thearticlefamiliarisesthereaderwiththe
premisesoftheOAconceptwhichcontributestothepopularisationofknowledgeand
itsdevelopment,itpresentsonthebasisoftheexampleoftheJagiellonianUniversity
Repositorythemannerofthefunctioningofrepositories,thebenefitswhichareas-
sociatedwiththeopportunitytopublishworksintheopenaccessframeworkand
itindicatesthepositionwhichinstitutionaldigitallibrariesmayassumeinscholarly
communication.
