thefarrightandthefarleft,iffordifferentreasons.TothefarrightRussiapro-
posesapartitionofUkraine,tothefarleftresistancetoNATO.Themoment
thattheRussianideathattheWestisudecadent”extendsbeyondtheextremes
isthemomentthatRussiaitselfreturnstoPolishthought.Thehistoryofideas
demonstratesthatpresentconvictionsareveryoftenbaseduponfluidsubstruc-
tures,andthatthehorizonofpossibilityisbroaderthanitseems.
