1.INTRODUCTION
Thequestionofhowimportantexibleformsofemploymentareinghtingun-
employmenthasbeensubjecttomanycontroversies.Variousissueshavebeen
raisedsuchasbadtreatment,thelackofsocialsecurity,uncertaintyofemploy-
mentandmanyothernegativecharacteristics.Manyofthesevoicesareparts
ofmythsandstereotypesbutunfortunately,theyoftencausepeopletorefrain
fromtakingopportunitieswhichexibleformsprovide.
Regardlessofhowexibleformsofemploymentareperceived,onethingis
certain:theyhavebecomearegularpartoftheemploymentpoliticsoforganisa-
tionsofallsectors,private,publicandsocial,andtheirimportanceinthelabour
markethaschanged.Afull-timejobforanunspecifiedperiodoftimeinonework-
placeandononeshiftusedtobeatraditionalformofemploymentbutisgradually
beingphasedout,whiletheformsofemploymentearlierconsideredasunusual
arenowbecomingtypical.
However,manyproblemsarise.Ontheonehand,manystigmatiseflexible
formsofemployment,ontheotherhand,peopleover50towhomtheformsare
addressedarethreatenedbysocialexclusionduetomanystereotypes.These
stereotypesareconnectedwithimagesconcerningtheirworsepsycho-socialand
intellectualfunctioningand,althoughnotproven,theydiscouragepeopleover50
frombenefitingfromflexibleformsofemploymentandpreventlabourmarketin-
stitutionsfrominitiatingsocio-professionalactivation.Thisobviouslyisnotcon-
ducivetocreatingnewadaptingprogrammesforemploymentinexibleforms.
Therefore,twoadditionalveryimportantchaptershavebeenaddedtothe
book.Therstisaimedatthemostimportantchangesinphysicalandpsycho-
logicalsphereswhichoccurinpersonsinmidlife.Therearepresentedthenewest
researchresultsandanalysesofthesubjectliteraturewhicharetoshowwhich
activationformswouldbethemostappropriateforthisagegroup.Theknowledge
aboutthemechanismshelpstochooseaproperrangeofinstrumentsintegrating
themwiththelabourmarket.
Theresearchconductedonthesampleoftheunemployedfromoneofthe
regionsofPoland(n=100)revealedimportantissuesconcerningthe50+.The
conclusionsservedasabasisfortheguidelinesofastrategyofsolvingsocial
problemsofthesepeopleintheeldofprofessionalintegration.
