Summary

Inthecontemporarybioethicaldisputes,whichareatthesametimepolitical,what

isoftenputforwardistheargumentoftherighttohaveornothaveachild.Accord-

ingtothesupportersofthisright,itisaconsequenceofwidelypromotedreproduction

rights(whichareanexpressionoftheso-calledreproductivemedicine).Suchaperspec-

tiveconstitutesanexpressionofapeculiarasymmetry—claimswithrelationtothe

childdonotcorrespondwiththerightsofthechild.Thementionedidea,visibleinthe

actsofthecodiﬁedlaw,isthesubjectofChurchcriticism.Inplaceoftheclaimswith

relationtothechild,theChurch,bythemeansofJohnPaulII’swords,formulatesan

originalideaandthecharterontherightsofthechild.
