reflectedwithequalbrilliance,sincepolygamy,theplagueofdivorce,
so-calledfreeloveandotherdisfigurementshaveanobscuringefect.In
addition,marriedloveistoooftenprofanedbyexcessiveself-love,thewor-
shipofpleasureandillicitpracticesagainsthumangeneration.Moreover,
seriousdisturbancesarecausedinfamiliesbymoderneconomiccondi-
tions,byinfluencesatoncesocialandpsychological,andbythedemands
ofcivilsociety.Finally,incertainpartsoftheworldproblemsresulting
frompopulationgrowtharegeneratingconcern.Allthesesituationshave
producedanxietyofconsciences.2
JohnPaulIIinhisexhortationFamiliarisConsortioclearlyatfirst
showedsomepositiveaspectsofcontemporaryrealityforthemarriage
andfamilyasclearsignsofthesalvationthroughChristoperatinginthe
world.Amongthemhementioned:
•amorelivelysenseofpersonalfreedom,
•attachmentofgreaterimportancetothequalityofinterpersonalrela-
tionsinmarriage,
•promotionofthewoman’sdignity
,
•focusingonresponsibleparenthood,
•focusingontheupbringingofchildren,
•raisingawarenessoftheneedfortighteningrelationswithother
familieswithaviewtobringingmutualspiritualandmaterialassi-
stance,
•fullerunderstandingoftheChurch’smissioninthespiritofresponsibi-
lityforbuildingamorejustsociety

Atthesametime,theHolyFatherspokeaboutnegativeaspectsofthis
marriageandfamilylifecondition,puttingthemincategoriesofbasic
valuedegradationsymptoms.Theyaretheconsequencesofrejecting
God’slovebyMan.Amongsuchphenomenahefound:
•wrongunderstanding,bothintheoryandpractice,ofthespouses’inde-
pendenceinmutualrelations,
•degradationofparentalauthority
,
•practicaldifficultiesinpassingdownvaluesbyfamilies,
•everincreasingdivorcerate,
•theplagueofabortions,
•choosingsterilisation,
