Theabove-quotedwordsrefertothewholeareaofcontentionbetween

thecultureoflifeandcultureofdeath.Aspecialfocalpointofthecon-

tentionyet,wasandhasbeenthefamilygrowingfromtheinstitutional

marriageofthemanandwoman.Themodernculturefeaturinghedonism

andmoralpermissiveness,supportedbychaoticanddestructivepoliti-

calactivitiesseemstocontradictthechancetosavethetraditionaltruth

aboutmarriage.WordsoftheblessedPopeletus,however,discoverthe

unusuallydistinctiveconjunctionanddependence:sensitivitytoGodand

sensitivitytoanotherhumanbeing.

Anyattemptsatconstructingahumanisticcultureinseparationfrom

God,inactivitiesdenyingHisexistence,meancreatingadestructivecul-

ture.Initsdeepestsense,ananti-humanisticcultureand,assuch,doomed

toself-destruction.
