InthisvolumeKarolDerwich,aPh.D.fromtheCenterforLatinAmericanStudiesof

theInstituteofAmericanStudiesandPolishDiaspora,presentsacollectionofprimary

sourcesrelatedtoU.S.relationswithLatinAmericanandCaribbeanregion.Thevolume,

organizedbychronologyandtheme,willbeespeciallyusefulforthosescholarsfocusing

Theselectionoftextsanddocumentswillseektodemonstrateamoremodernand

BolivarandJoseMartihaveprovidedeloquenttestimonyofhowAmericangovernments

havehistoricallysoughttodominateitssouthernneighbors.Mexico,Cubaandmostof

CentralAmericanandCaribbeanStateshaveespeciallypainfulmemoriesofAmerican

imperialism.

ButtherearealsosigniﬁcantdocumentsthatdemonstratehowtheUnitedStatesand

LatinAmericanandCaribbeanStateshaveestablishedsigniﬁcantformsofregional

cooperation.Inthepasttheseagreementshavehelpedtoeaseotherwiseconﬂictingsets

ofinterests,valuesandobjectives.ThePan-Americanmovementinthe1920sand1930s

isperhapsthebestexampleofthiscooperationthatatthetimewashistoricallyunique

ininternationalaffairs.
