ceptionsandimageofbusiness,whichincludednotonlytheopinionsonpri-
vatebusinessesbutalsoontheirowners.Terefore,thespectrumofthetackled
problemswasverybroad.Teobjectiveeconomicsituationindicatedinwhich
directiontheresearchoneconomicawarenesswillbeundertaken,yetitshowed
littleinterestindefiningandoperationalizingtheveryconcept.
GrażynaKrzyminiewskahasattemptedtodefineaverysimilarconceptby
exploringtheeconomiccultureofruralyouthanditsimportanceforthesocio-
economicdevelopmentofruralareas(Krzyminiewska,2010).Fortheneedsof
herresearchshedefinedtheeconomiccultureasconsistingof:economicsociali-
zation,attitudetowardsmoneyandsaving,consumption,economicaspirations,
assessmentofsocialreality,valuesystem,abilities,economicknowledge,atti-
tudetowardsworkandentrepreneurship(Krzyminiewska,2010:23).Because
theauthordidherresearchamongsecondaryschoolstudents,socializationwas
averyimportantcontributingfactor.Consequently,theauthorclaimsthatso-
cializationisessentialinshapinghumanpersonality,asthevaluesystemthus
createdańectstheassessmentofsocialreality.Itisthroughsocializationthat
ayoungpersoncreatesone’sowneconomicknowledge,whichallowsoneto
navigatethemarketeconomy(Krzyminiewska2010:24).Inherlaterworks,the
authorperformstheoreticalanalysesoftheeconomicculture,itscomponents
andusefulnessinempiricalresearch(Krzyminiewska,2013:31-73).While
discussingthecomponentsofeconomiccultureshepointsouttheirinterrelat-
edness.Teconceptofeconomicawarenessiskintoorevenblurswithother
concepts,suchaseconomicmentalityandeconomicculture.Teauthordeals
withthisissuebyexplainingtherelationshipsbetweenthem.“Bothmentality
andeconomicawarenesswithoutbeingidenticalconceptsrefertothesystemof
rulesthatarecomponentsoftheculturethatanentity(community)considers
intheprocessingofinformationinsociety;theserulesaretheresultofabroad
socialcontextinwhichtheindividualandthecollectivework.Tismeansthat
economiccultureisthesuperiortermtowhichmentalityandeconomicaware-
nessrefer,evenifnotinadirectway”(Krzyminiewska,2010:23).
Economicawarenessisoneoftheelementsofeconomiccultureandour
researchisalignedwiththisunderstandingofthetwo.Fortheneedsofthe
research,ourowndefinitionwasespousedtotesttheyoungergeneration,par-
ticularlystudents.Tisdefinitionhadtoincludecomponentsindicativeofthe
economicattitudesoftheyoungergeneration,hovever,infact,thissocialgroup
asawholehasscarceworkexperience,whilesimultaneouslyusuallyshowshigh
aspirationsandadesiretosucceed.Terefore,economicawarenessoftheyoung-
ergeneration,aswetreatedit,istobeunderstoodasfollows:Itisaperson’sway
ofthinkingandattitudetoeconomicreality.Tofullyunderstandone’seconomic
awarenesstheinterviewshouldcoversuchareasas:economicknowledge,value
