everysociety,itisanindependentelementoftheculturalsystemandisrealized
throughindividualconsciousness(RitzeR,2004:136).Classicsociologypointed
outthemostimportantelementsthatexistinthemindsofthepeopleandwhich
werethenusedinthedefinitionofsocialawareness.
Temoderndefinitionofsocialawarenessisan“interrelatedandintegrat-
edcontentofthetotalityofthespirituallife,values,ideas,attitudesandbe-
liefscharacteristicofagivencommunity,socialgrouporsocietyasawhole.”
(Olechnicki,Załęcki2002:215).Awarenessdefinedinsuchawayconcernsan
alreadydefined,rathernarrowandspecificarea.Hence,classconsciousness,as
wellasthecategoriesofhistorical,group,professional,corporate,andnational
awareness(es)arebynecessitydefinedandresearched.Oftheseparticularlythe
latterwassubjecttomanysociologicalstudies,duetothefactthatitrefersto
agroupthatisveryclearlydistinguishablefromothergroups.
Economicawarenessusually,astheadjectivesuggests,referstotheeconomy.
Inmostcaseswhenoneencountersthetermitsdefinitionisnotpresented,how-
ever,theconceptisstillbeingemployedthusallowingempiricalresearch.In
Poland,researchoneconomicawarenesswas,infact,alreadyconductedonce
aferthedemiseofrealsocialisminthe80sbutthesystematicempiricalresearch
wasonlypossiblewiththeonsetoftransformation(Koralewicz,Ziółkowski,
1990,GaRdawski,1992).Tisresearchwasconductedamongstrepresentatives
ofoneoccupationonly-thelaborer.Atalaterstagethesampleexaminedwas
expandedtoincludeindustryworkers.Tescopeoftheresearchtackledprob-
lemspeopleweremostconcernedwiththosedays.Forexample,itincludedthe
veryacceptanceofthemarketeconomy,supportforactionsstemmingfrom
maximizingprofitability,suchasdismissingunnecessaryworkersorliquidation
ofineńectivecompanies,acceptanceofunemploymentasasocialphenomenon,
orattitudetowardsforeigncapital(GaRdawski,Gilejko,1997,GaRdawski,
2009:246).Tescopeofanalyzedvariablesconnectedwitheconomicaware-
nesswaschieflyconcernedwiththeevaluationofthethen-presenteconomic
situationanditsclearaimwastogettoknowtheextenttowhichcertainsocial
categoriesofPolesacceptthem.
OtherresearchoneconomicawarenessalsooscillatedaroundthePolishso-
ciety’sacceptanceofandadjustmenttotheconditionsofmarketeconomy.Te
analyzedproblemswereasfollows:variousaspectsoftheeconomyfunctioning,
thepaceanddirectionoftheeconomy’sdevelopment,therateofbudgetdefi-
cit,theeconomicimpactofstateandsocialjustice,therolecompaniesplayin
countrydevelopment,thesourceofstateandboroughincomes,corporatesocial
responsibility,consumerbehavior,motivationforownbusinessactivityandthe
legitimizationofthesocio-economicsysteminapost-crisisperiod(Kolarska-
