INTRODUCTION
Theprevious„Catalogueofthebeetlesof
Belarus”waspublishedover25yearsago
(Alexandrovichetal.1996).Sincethattime
numeroustaxonomicchangeshavebeen
introduced,newdataonthealreadyrecorded
specieswerecollected,informationon868
speciesthatwerenotincludedinthisearlier
listweregathered,moreover,111species
werepreviouslywronglyidentified.New
researchalmostdoubledthespeciesnumber
inthefamiliesthathadbeenpoorlyinvestigat-
ed,i.e.Staphylinidae(275newlyrecorded
species),Nitidulidae(36)andCryptopha-
gidae(33).
InTheCatalogueofPalaearcticColeop-
tera(2004-2013,2015-2020)109specieswere
erroneouslyregisteredinBelarus.Further-
more,numerousspecieslongknownfrom
thiscountrywereomitted.Asagoodexam-
ple,inwhichtheseerrorswerecorrected,
mayservetheseparateanalysisofCarabidae
(Aleksandrowiczetal.2016).
InalargeworklikeTheCatalogueofPal-
aearcticColeoptera,whichdealswithahuge
numberofspecies,concentratingonerrone-
ousrecordsfromoneregioncouldappear
overpedantic.However,as25%ofspecies
fromthewellinvestigatedfaunaofBelarus
weremissing,theinformativevalueofdata
presentedthere,islargelydiminished.Thus,
71commonspecieswerenotincludedinthe
Catalogue,26specieswerewronglylistedin
thispublication.
Unfortunately,anumberofnewworks
werepublishedfromBelarusthatconcerned
newfindingsofspeciesfortheregionthat
lackproperdocumentationandtheirau-
thorsdidnothavenecessaryqualifications
orcomparativematerial.Itincreasedthe
alreadylargeamountofwronginformation
inthepublishedliteratureandmayhinder
theproperresearchofbeetlefaunainBela-
rus.Furthermore,thenumeroustaxonomic
revisions,especiallyonthespecieslevel,
mayimpairtheuseofapreviouseditionof
thelist.Weprovidednecessaryadditions
andexplanationsinreferencetosynonymy,
generaidentity,placementofspeciesinfam-
iliesandchangesinspeciesstatus.
Alltheabovementionedreasonsencour-
agedustoprepareanew,actualizedcata-
logueofbeetlesinBelarus.Wegatheredand
systematizedallthepublishedrecords,cor-
rectedmisinterpretednames,orderedand
elaboratedthebeetlelistaccordingtodiffer-
entgeobotanicalregionsinBelarus(Tab.1).
Belarusissituatedontheborderoftwo
biogeographicalzonestheEurasianTaiga
andEuropeanTemperateBroadleafand
MixedForests,thusitistheregionofhigh
interestformanyscientists.Thecountry
contains3clearlydistinguishedsubzones
andsevengeobotanicregions(Fig.1).Inthe
Norththereisthesubzoneofoak-spruce
forests,withtheconsiderableinfluenceof
borealzones(geobotanicregions1,2and3),
intheSouthpredominatedeciduousforests
withadmixtureofpine.Thissubzoneisun-
derstronginfluenceoffloraandfaunatypi-
calforwesternEuropeorsteppehabitats
(geobotanicalregion6and7).Thecentral
partofthecountryisdominatedbydecidu-
ousforestswithadmixtureofspruce(geobo-
tanicregions4and5),inwhichtheequal
partofborealandwestEuropeaninfluence
ispronounced(Юркевичидр.1979).As
aresultofthis,manyspecies’rangeborders
aresituatedintheterritoryofBelarusand
knowledgeondistributionofthesespecies
seemstobeimportantforfurtherbiogeo-
graphicalanalysis.
