Next,JerzyKrzyszkowskireportstheincreasingdecentralisationofpublicservices

inthePolishcaresectorusingtheexampleofhomecareservices.Hearguesthatthe

Polishwelfarestatehaslargelywithdrawnfromprovidingpublicservices,resultingin

theemergenceofamixofcommercialandvoluntarysectorcareproviderscomplement-

ingthecareprovidedbyalreadyoverstretchedfamilycarers.

WiththequestionofhowtomanageanageingworkforceBogusławaUrbaniakad-

dressesakeyissueofEuropeandebateontheimpactofdemographicchangeonfuture

economicgrowthandthewellbeingofEuropeancitizens.Agemanagementisanin-

creasinglyrecognisedtoolofhumanresourcemanagementusedtopromoteolderwork-

ers’labourmarketparticipation.BogusławaUrbaniakidentiﬁesanumberofsuccessful

‘bestpractice’examplesinPolandcontributingtoasustainableemploymentofolder

workers.

Chapter11byPiotrObidzińskidiscusseschangestothePolishsocialsecuritysystem

inresponsetodemographicageingusingtheexampleoftheDemographicReserveFund

thatwasintroducedtoincreasethesolvencyofthepublicpensionsystem.

ThesocialpolicydebateinthisbookisconcludedwithachapterbyKsenijaRamovš,

JožeRamovšandSimonaHvalicTouzerywhopresentanaccountofthecontributionof

intergenerationalprogrammesandotherNGOsectorprojectstoolderpeople’squalityof

lifeusingtheexampleoftheAntonTrstenjakInstituteinLjubljana,Slovenia.

SociologyCongress.Thus,thePolishSociologicalAssociationacknowledgedthegrow-

ingimportanceofthissociologicalsub-disciplineinPoland,therebyprovidingaunique

opportunityforestablishinganall-Polishnetworkoftheseresearchersandlinkingitwith

theinternationalresearchcommunity.WecontinuetobegratefultothePolishSociological
