Summary:ItshouldbeemphasizedthatnoprincessoftheSilesianPiastswassenttoa
conventagainstherwill,orwhenshewasunderage.Infact,themotiveswhytheywent
thereremainunknown.Altogether,of166princesses,44(26%)choselifeinacloister.Of
theabovenumber,thedaughtersofUpperSilesianprincesconstitutedthemajority(33%),
withevenmoreofthem(40%)fromtheOpoleprincipality.Inmostcases,theprincesses
becamemembersofthePoorClarecommunityortheCisterianOrder,withonlyafewof
themjoiningtheNorbertanOrderorDominicansisters.AmajorityofSilesianprincesses
werepromotedtohighpostsbecomingprioressesorabbesses.LowerSilesianprincess
attainedaneminentpositionmoreoftenthanUpperSilesianones.Manyoftheprincesses
wholivedinthecloisters,workedalsofortheeconomicdevelopmentofthearea,
contributingtothecloister’swealthanddoingcharitywork..
