Abstract.Theprimaryobjectiveofthispaperistodesignamethodofde-
tectingroadedgeswithoutusingcomplexalgorithmstoidentifyandanalyze
images.Instead,neuralnetworksareused,whichallowstoenhanceandfacil-
itatethisprocess.Thepaperdescribesaprogramthatrecognizestheroadina
picturewiththeuseofaneuralnetworktrainedon500samples.Thesamples
containoriginalphotosandimageswithaselectedroad.Inthecourseofthe
researchtwosolutionsarose.ThefirstsolutionistouseasinglePerceptron
torecognizetheroad.Thesecondsolutionistoclassifythephotosusinga
Kohonennetworkandestablishaseparatenetworkforeachclass.

1.Introduction
Artificialvisionsystemsareextremelyusefulinourlife.Theycouldhelpdrivers
bycontrollingtraclights.Physicianscouldusethemtodetectdiseasesandthey
canalsobeusedinthemanufacturingprocessinafactory.Oneapplicationof
artificialvisionsystems,whichmayproveespeciallyuseful,isdetectingtheroad
infrontofacar.Notonlycanitimprovethecomfortofdriving,butalsoincrease
safetyoftheroadusers.Thisisaveryinterestingquestionbecauseifacomputeris
abletoidentifytheroadandthelocationofthevehicleontheroaditwillbeable
todrivebyitself.Andcertainlyitwouldbehelpfulinkeepingthevehicleonthe
