exhibit(forexample,Fessler&Christensen,1992).Tisdevelopmentand
perceptionofitsphasesaredirectlylinkedwiththecareerstagesofagiven
teacher(Table1.2).

Anotherperspectiveonteacherdevelopmentisdescribedintheworkof
Berliner(1994),whoassumesthecentralityofteachers)thinkingabouttheir
job,conceptualisedbythetypeofcognitiveprocessesinvolvedindińerent
phasesofteacherdevelopment,whichisseenasdevelopmentofteaching
expertise.Berlinerseesteacherexpertisedevelopmentasafive-stageprocess
(Table1.3).
Aswasdiscussedabove,consecutivestagesofateacher)scareeraremarked
byfairlyclear-cutconcernsandthemes,butitalsoneedstobeacknowledged
thatattitudeandmotivationtowardsthejobconstituteasignificantfactorin
