UN’sSustainableDevelopmentGoal3(SDG3),forwhichspecifictargetsaretobeachieved
by2030.Consequently,changesaremonitoredbytheWHOusingvariousindicators.Te
SDG3indicatorsthataredirectlyrelatedtohealthincludechildandinfantmortality,life
expectancy,andhealthylifeexpectancy,aswellaswomen’sreproductivehealth.Moreover,
theWHOpublishestheWorldHealthStatisticsReport,whichcontainsinformationfor193
countriesmonitoringhealthindicatorsforover50SustainableDevelopmentGoals.Itisalso
worthmentioningthattheWHOinitiatedtheimplementationoftheWorldHealthSurvey
carriedoutin2002-2004in69selectedcountries,representingspecificregionsoftheworld11.
WorkiscurrentlyunderwaytoimplementtheWorldHealthSurveyPlus(WHS+),designedas
acomprehensivehealthsurveyusingavarietyofdatacollectionsourcestoprovideindicators
tomonitorprogresstowardstheSustainableDevelopmentGoals.Tesurveywasscheduledto
beginin2021l2022andwillberepeatedeverythreetofiveyears.Fifycountriesfromdińerent
regionsoftheworldareexpectedtoparticipateby2023.
ItisalsonoteworthytomentiontheWorldHealthDataHubproject,whichisacollab-
orationbetweentheWHO,Microsof,andAvenade,aimingtocreatetheworld’sfirstcom-
prehensivedatasolutionforglobalpublichealth.Specifically,thepurposeistoreducedata
fragmentationandstreamlineprocessesaswellastoidentifyandaddressgapsandinequities,
andensurethatdataareaccessible,easytofind,andusefultoallstakeholders.
5.3.3.TheOrganisatonforEconomicCo-operatonandDevelopment
TeOrganisationforEconomicCo-operationandDevelopment(OECD)alsomakesavail-
ablethedatafromitsdatabases,providinginformationonpopulationsizeandstructureof
theOECDcountriesandselectedcountriesoutsideoftheorganisation.Inaddition,theOECD
databaseprovideshealthstatusdataintwomainsections:“Mortality”and“Morbidity”,as
wellasdatarelatedtoCOVID-19deaths.Tepublishedindicatorsaresimilartothoseavail-
ableinthedatabasesoftheEurostatorontheUNlWHOwebsites.Otherinformationrelated
tohealthcare,suchasnon-medicaldeterminantsofhealth,healthexpenditure,thequality
ofhealthcare,etc.,isalsoincludedintheOECDdatabases.TeOECDcarriesoutmethodo-
logicalandanalyticalwork,theresultsofwhicharepublishedintheformofvariousindica-
tors,e.g.intheregularreportonpopulationhealthandhealthsystemperformanceentitled
“HealthataGlance”.
5.3.4.Otherdatabases
Inadditiontothesofarmentioneddatabasesthatcontainindicatorsimportantfromthe
publichealthperspective,thereareotherinstitutionsthatalsomakesuchdataavailable.Te
WorldBank,forexample,haspopulationandpopulationhealthdataforallcountrieslregions
oftheworld12.TeEuropeanCancerInformationSystem(ECIS13)providesdataoncancer
incidencealongwithmortalitylsurvivalstatistics.Dataarecompiledbynationalcancerreg-
istriesinallcountriesoftheEuropeanCommunity.Anothersourceofmortalityinformation
