shallowbowlswithslightlyS-shaped
curvedsides[Fig.2:2].Onelargefragment
probablyrepresentsabulbousjar[Fig.2:3].
TUMBLER-SHAPEDLAMPS
Inadditiontothelampswithcracked-off
rims,theauditoriaalsoproducedfragments
oftumbler-shapedlamps.Theyarerepres-
entedbysegmentsofaslightlyflaringside-
wallofbowlswithrimsfoldedoutwardand
downwardandwithonesurvivinghandle
[Fig.2:4-5].Suchlampsareusuallyequip-
pedwiththreeshortverticalhandles,ar-
rangedinatriangle,drawnfromthewallup
totheedgeoftherim.Acharacteristic
featureofsuchhandlesisthattheyareoften
madeincontrasted,colouredglass,usually
darkblue,onlighter-coloredbodies.This
typeoflampcouldbeagainsuspendedor,
alternately,freestanding,eitheronatableor
altar.
Tumbler-shapedlampswithslight
variationsoftherimsandhandtreatment
werecommonitemsfoundinmanypartsof
theMediterraneanregionbetweenthe5th
and7thcenturiesAD.Itwasalong-lived
typeandcontinuedtobeproduceduntil
