cases.Thecontentsofourbookreectsthisdivisionintoparts.
Attheoutset,however,wemustmentionsomereservations.
First,thishandbookconsidersproblemsofcontemporaryphi-
losophyoflaw,butitisbynomeansahandbookofthehistory
ofphilosophyoflaw.
Second,thishandbookhasamodule-basedorganization.Inthe
future,itwillbepossibletochangethesemodulesasrequired.
Thus,itisanopen-endedońering,whichwillcertainly-and
thiswaspartoftheprojectfromthestart-besubjecttofurther
changes,supplements,andmodificationsinsubsequentedi-
tions.Weareawarethatseveralimportantquestionshavenot
beendealtwithinit,andperhapssomehavebeendealtwithtoo
fully.Insubsequenteditions,wewillcertainlymodifythebook-
likeahousemadeofbuildingblocks-takingintoconsideration
thelatestviewsandapproaches,theresponsesofourreaders,
andaboveallthecommentsofourstudents.
Third,theeditorshavegiventheauthorsofparticularchapters
andsubchaptersasubstantialdegreeoffreedominrelationto
thefinalversionsoftheirtexts.Thus,theyfrequentlyhaveacon-
siderablyindividualcharacter,andeachoftheauthorsbears
responsibilityforthecontentsofhis/herpartofthehandbook.
Thisindividualqualityis,however,essential;howcouldwespeak
ofthephilosophyoflawinoneway,andexpectadińerentap-
proachfromourstudents?
ThisbookwasfirstpublishedinaPolish-languageeditionby
thepublishersLexisNexis(Filozofiaprawawpytaniachiodpo-
wiedziach,ed.J.Zajadło,K.Zeidler,LexisNexis,Warsaw2013).
However,itdińersconsiderablyfromthatfirstPolishversion.Itis,
thus,bothacontinuationofthatearlierproject,andalsoabook
whichhasevolvedandwhichwillcontinuetodosointhefuture.
