belongtothesocialsphere.LisaGitelmanreferstothiswhenshedefinesmedia
as“sociallyrealisedstructuresofcommunication,wherestructuresincludeboth
technologicalformsandtheirassociatedprotocols,andwherecommunication
isaculturalpractice,aritualisedcollocationofdilerentpeopleonthesamemen-
talmap,sharingorengagedwithpopularontologiesofrepresentation.”4
