intoaccountthewritingsofAdamDoboszyński.Doboszyńskiwasregarded
asaverycontroversialfigure,butafterthepublicationofhisGospodarka
narodowa(NationalEconomy)in1934hebecamepubliclyrecognisedasthe
authorofthenationalisticprogramme.Inlessthanfiveyears,Doboszyński’s
bookwasreprintedthreetimes,andbecameamust-readforanyonein-
terestedinnationalistthinking.Itspublicationignitedalivelydebate,
especiallyintheopinionmediawhich,characteristicoftheinterwarperiod,
engagedallpoliticalgroupsandfractions.In1945,Doboszyńskipublished
hisbookonemoretime,butthistimeinLondonasTheEconomicsofChar-
ity.Intermsofeconomics,Doboszyński’sLondoneditionrevealsgreater
maturityincomparisonwiththeoriginaleditionspublishedinPolandinthe
interwarperiod,aswellasincorporatingthebodyofEuropeanthought
onstateinterventionisminthemarketeconomy.Further,Gospodarkanaro-
dowa’soriginalinterwareditionscausedquiteastiratthetimeandsparked
diversereactions,rangingfromtotalcriticismtofullaffirmation.However,
aftertheSecondWorldWarDoboszyński’sviews,especiallythosereferring
topoliticalsystems,becamealmostcompletelyobsolete.
Moreover,acompleteanalysisoftheeconomicthinkingofPolishnational-
istsintheinterwarperiodmustincludeotherpublicationsofthemid-1930s.
SuchworksincludeRomanRybarski’sPodstawynarodowegoprogramugos-
podarczego(FoundationsoftheNationalistEconomicProgramme)published
in1934andProgramgospodarczy(EconomicProgramme)publishedin1937.
Anotherimportantpublication,regardedasasemi-officialprogramme
ofthenationalistmovement,wasJędrzejGiertych’sOwyjściezkryzysu
(TowardsEndingtheCrisis)publishedin1938.
ThepurposeofthisanalysisistoshowtherelationshipbetweenthePolish
nationalistprogrammeoftheinterwarperiodandtheeconomicthink-
ingrootedinthesocialteachingsoftheCatholicChurch,whichincluded
ideasofsolidarism,ordoliberalism(withitseconomicpracticeintheform
ofasocialfreemarketeconomy),aswellasotherideasofeconomicjustice
andeconomicmorality.Toacknowledgethisrelationship,pleasenotethat
theideasof“ordo”,meaningthenaturaleconomicorder,justliketheidea
ofsolidarism,canbetracedbacktothephilosophyofSt.ThomasAqui-
nas,whoseelementscanalsobeseeninthethinkingofbothnationalists
andChristiandemocrats.
