thenewmemberstates.Patternsofourcultureparticipationareworsethan
elsewhere,becauseinPolandcinemaisthedominantfeature,whereasinLatvia
andLithuaniaconcertsanddiscosplayamajorrole.Outingstomusictheatres,
operaandoperettaarerarer(Dąbrowska,Janoś-Kresło2007,pp.113-116).
ItprovesthatPoleshavelimiteddemandforhighculture.Achanceofim-
provementmaybeseenintheNationalStrategyfortheDevelopment
ofCulture,acceptedfortheyears2004-2013(NarodowaStrategiaRozwoju
Kultury,2004).Adoptionofanewdefinitionofcultureasalongtermeconomic
investmentinvolvesafundamentalchangeinapproach,andtreatingculture
asanimportantfactorofsocio-economicdevelopment.Itshouldresultinan
increaseinspendingonculturecomparedwithotherEuropeancountries.Be-
sidesincreasingspendingoncultureinGDP,aneffectoftheNationalStrategy,
istobecreatingbrandproductsofmassculturetourism.Itisassumedthat
Europeangoodpracticesandprinciplesofusingstructuralfunds,aswell
assomeprogramsaimedatdevelopmentofculturewillbeused.
MostimportantchangesinPolishconsumermarketincludethedynamic
developmentofprivateschoolsonalllevelsofeducation.Thisallowsforsatis-
fyingyoungpeople’saspirations,aswellascreatinglifelonglearningopportu-
nitiesforadults.Thankstotheabove,arecordbreakingscholarisationindex
wasachievedinPoland,whichin2007reached50%.Theshareoftheprivate
sectorineducationkeepsincreasingintheprimaryandsecondaryschoolsec-
tors.Itisananswertoademandforfriendlier,betterequippedschools,
withsyllabusesthataremoreadaptedtoindividualneeds.
Conclusions
ArechangesinthebehaviourofPolishconsumersstimulatedbythe
developmentofmarketeconomyandthesingleEuropeanmarketleadingto-
wardsauniformEuro-consumer?Ifsuchanentityisamodernconsumer,
efficientlyoperatingintheEuropeanenvironment,andcompetentlyusing
thepotentialofthesingleEuropeanmarket,thenitcanbeexpectedthatPolish
consumerswillgraduallyacquirethesecharacteristics.Thiswillberealised
withacceptancefortheculturaldiversityinEurope,whichisnotabarrier
oftheprocessofcreatingtheEuropeanidentity.Polesshareastrongnational
identity,butitdoesnotpreventthemfromfeelingEuropean.
