particles(suchasclay,detrialparticles),limitedtheprimaryproductionbydecrea-
singlightpenetration.
SUMMARY
Thelakeslocatedinthecoastalzone,attheinterfaceoflandandsea,develop
aspecificgeoecosysteminwhichthedirectionofphysical,chemical,andbiologi-
calprocessesdependsonwhichofthetwoenvironmentshasastrongerimpactat
agivenmoment.Theecologicalstatusoftheselakesiscreatedbyseveralfactors:
animpactofseawaterandlandbackground;temporarymeteorologicalsituation;
complexhydrologicalconditions,andlocalhumanactivity,bothinaspectofuseand
protection.
About70%ofSouthBalticSeashorelakespresentedinthispaperwasclassified
asatleasteutrophic.ThemeanTSI’svaluewaspositivelycorrelatedwiththelake
surfaceareaandthelakescatchmentarea,andnegativelycorrelatedwiththemean
depthofthelake.Inthestudiedlakestherewasasignificantrelationshipbetween
thevaluesofwatertransparency,concentrationofchlorophyllaandnutrients
concentration,whichcansuggestthatthestudiedlakescontinuetheirevolutionin
aharmoniusmanner.Consequently,theTSIindicesofstudiedSouthBalticSeasho-
relakeswererathersimilarandsignificantlycorrelated.Therelationshipbetween
TSI’sshowedthatinthecaseof14lakestheprimaryproductionislimitedbothby
phosphorusandnitrogenconcentrationinwater.Additionally,significantpositive
correlationbetweenTSI

TNconformsbothnutrientlimitation.
Posibilityofonlyonenutrientlimitation(TNorTP)wasobservedin6lakes.Forfive
lakeswithlowertrophicstatusnutrientsarenotkeyfactorswhichlimitbiological
productivity.Forfourofthemitmaybezooplanktongrazing,andonyinonelake
non-algalturbiditycouldafectthealgalbiomass.
