Introduction
Securityasoneofthefundamentalexistentialneedsofeveryhumanbeing,
isthemainbasisforhisfunctioningineveryday,socialandstatelife.Theneed
forsecurityandstabilityseemstobeanecessityfromthemomentofbirthand
decidesaboutthefurtherstagesofdevelopment,affectingthewholelifeofthe
humanindividual.Inadditiontothepsychologicalcontextandtheundeniable
roleofsecurityinhumanlife,itisalsotheprimaryneedofcountriesandinter-
nationalsystems.
Issuesrelatedtobroadlydefinedsecurityhavebeenpresentforaverylongtime
andcausemanydiscussionsbothamongthescientificcommunityandpoliticalbod-
iesofeachcountry.Itisalsoanindispensableaspectofconsiderationsundertaken
amonginternationalorganizationsandotherparticipantsininternationalrelations.
Theissueofinternationalpeaceandsecurityisoneofthemostfrequentlyraised
issuesinthedebatestakingplaceintheinternationalarena.Theconceptofinter-
nationalsecurityoccursinmanycontextsandmeanings,whichcausesevengreater
polemicsoverthistopic.Itisgenerallypointedoutthatsecuritycanbeviewednega-
tivelyandpositively.Inanegativesense,internationalsecuritymeansnothreat,
i.e.apassivestate,whileinapositivesenseitisanactiveoppositiontoemerging
threats,i.e.anactivestate.Internationalsecurityisnotonlythesumofthesecurity
ofindividualstates,butalsoallmechanisms,conditionsandinternationalstandards
aswellasgoalsandvaluescommontotheentireinternationalsystem.
Issuesrelatedtocontemporaryproblemsandchallengesofinternational
securityhavebecomethekeynoteofthe3rdeditionofNationalScientificCon-
ference“UniversityDiplomacyDays,whichwasheldonApril11–12,2018.The
eventwasorganizedbytheYoungDiplomatsCluboperatingattheInstituteof
EuropeanStudiesoftheFacultyofPoliticalSciencesoftheUniversityofWar-
saw.Theissuesraisedduringthedebatesaswellaslongaftertheirconclusion
andtheimportantconclusionsthatemergedfromthemledtothecreationof
apublicationoninternationalsecurityingeneral.
